Northern Regional Young Farmer of the Year

Aa Back

We turned up just after sunrise on Saturday to donate one of our woodcarvings from the Dargaville Field Days, which was later auctioned and raised $380 towards the running of the event. As we were setting up the display we heard that a couple of volunteers hadn't arrived so our Business Services Manager, Sue Fox, and Business Administrator, Sharyn Brown, promptly stepped in to fill the gap.

There were three levels of competition for the day, Young Farmers, Teen Ag and Agri Kids. As luck would have it, the ladies were asked to man the OSH table (something we know a lot about at NFM) for the Agri Kids competition. They spent the day putting the kids through their paces of identifying risks on the farm and were impressed by the good level of knowledge.

There were lots of fun activities which got progressively harder throughout the various age categories. The Young Farmers demonstrated a huge array of skills from backing quad bikes and running safety checks on a tractor, to riding a horse and hanging a farm gate.

A huge congratulations to Daniel Bradbury who took out the title of 'Northern FMG Young Farmer of the Year' and will go on to represent the region at the National Final to be held in Invercargill in July. Daniel and his fellow competitors highlighted how knowledgeable and well equipped for success our next generation of farmers are.
